Pearl-diademed and draped bust right., Latin potent cross, set on globe., Graded GENI MS, Surface 4/5, Strike 5/5. Diameter not mentionned on the slab. Triens identified as having been struck at Viviers (VI-VA), however no other examples seem to be known for this type, whose obverse and reverse are completely inspired by the coinages of the very late Roman Empire, but also with minimal degeneration compared to other later Merovingian types. Although dated by GENI to the 7th century, we believe that it could be an earlier issue, dated from the 6th century, as it is very close to the Roman types. This is a magnificent specimen, although slightly off-centre. The strike was extremely well done, and as the coin barely circulated, its state of preservation is superb., DVNOTHO MONVA VICO, (Caption begins at 1h) VIIVA(?)R(?) - [IA] [CI]VITAS / VI-VA // OMON GENI certificate number: ACKP0WCU5X
