Joseph I – King of Hungary, Coronation at Pressburg, 1687, Georg Hautsch

Obverse: Bust of the nine-year-old Joseph I facing right, wearing Hungarian dress. Two putti measure and adorn his elaborately curled hair, while a third works above his head. German inscription on a flowing ribbon above.

Reverse: The personification of Hungary presents the Holy Crown of Hungary to the young Joseph, who stands before her holding a spear. A battlefield with defeated Ottoman soldiers and military equipment appears in the background, referring to the Habsburg victories over the Ottoman Empire. Latin inscriptions around and in the exergue identify Joseph as King of Hungary and Archduke of Austria and give the year 1687.

Voorzijde: Borstbeeld van de negenjarige Joseph I naar rechts, gekleed in Hongaarse dracht. Twee putti meten en versieren zijn rijk gekrulde haar, terwijl een derde boven zijn hoofd werkt. Bovenaan staat een Duits opschrift op een golvend lint.

Keerzijde: De personificatie van Hongarije overhandigt de Heilige Kroon van Hongarije aan de jonge Joseph, die met een lans voor haar staat. Op de achtergrond verwijst een slagveld met verslagen Ottomaanse soldaten en militair materieel naar de Habsburgse overwinningen op het Ottomaanse Rijk. De Latijnse opschriften rondom en in de afsnede noemen Joseph koning van Hongarije en aartshertog van Oostenrijk en vermelden het jaar 1687.
