Two standing figures holding crosses, some crude greek / Large m; star between pellets-in-annulets above, somewhat corrupt Greek "Heliopolis" left and right, baalbek mint name (in arabic) in exergue. 19mm, 3.69 grams. Hims (Emesa) mint. Walker 35ff.
Green patina, nicer than the scan. From an old collection, with the original collection ticket.
These coins are among the earliest coins of the first Islamic Caliphate. Before the more familiar anepigraphic types were issued by the Ummayad, the arab conquerors used a slightly modified Byzantine coinage in the conquered Byzantine lands.
