Shah Jahan was the fifth Mughal emperor of India, best known for presiding over the empire’s cultural and architectural peak. His reign saw major expansion of imperial power and the creation of iconic monuments, most famously the Taj Mahal in Agra, built in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal. Shah Jahan also strengthened Mughal administration and patronized art, architecture, and court culture, though his later years were marked by illness and a war of succession among his sons, ending with his imprisonment by Aurangzeb.
