Attic Red-Figure Kylix with Seated Youth, ca. 490-480 BC. The interior decorated with a seated youthful male figure, rendered in the Attic red-figure technique. The figure is elegantly composed within the tondo, with details articulated in fine added lines. The vessel is otherwise intact, with no other restoration save for an ancient repair at the center, where the stem was reattached with a lead fill. The damage may have occurred during the ancient drinking game of kottabos, in which participants attempted to strike a target by flinging the dregs of wine from their kylikes. The vessel retains its lustrous black glaze and attractive surface. Provenance: Ex Christie's Antiquities, New York, circa 2000s. H. 3 1/2" Dia. 10" (8.9 cm x 25.4 cm)..
