Historical context
On June 16, 1946, General Charles de Gaulle delivered a foundational speech in Bayeux, outlining his vision for a strong executive power in post-war France. This address became the ideological basis for the 1958 Constitution of the Fifth Republic. The medal was issued in 1986 to mark the 40th anniversary of the Bayeux speech, commemorating de Gaulle’s pivotal role in reshaping French republican governance.
