Fine 1834 Quarto from Manila, reminding us that in the past, communications took time to carry news between the various territories of what was once the vast Spanish Empire. The fact that this piece was minted in the name of Ferdinand VII in the year 1834 is something that technically should not have occurred—or at least not with Ferdinand still portrayed as the reigning monarch—since he had passed away at the end of 1833, having arranged the succession for his daughter Isabella II, who was already on the throne by 1834.

Moreover, it's important to note that these types of coins were minted under extremely limited means and in very precarious conditions. As a result, many of the surviving specimens today exhibit significant losses in detail and data. One could say that for this kind of coin, the most important thing is that the main details are visible, making the coin’s condition a secondary or less critical factor, especially given how scarce and difficult to obtain these pieces have become recently.
