Nicolaus Copernicus Panel with Coin, Banknote and Stamp
Shortly before his death, Nicolaus Copernicus triggered one of the greatest revolutions in history in 1543. He published his work with the heliocentric model of the universe in Nuremberg. Contrary to the prevailing conviction at that time, according to this view not the earth but the sun is the center of the universe and is orbited by all planets. Born in 1473 in Thorn, Poland, the famous astronomer was also a highly respected advisor in the field of coinage and was the first to develop the quantity theory of money, which explains inflation, for example. This panel includes a Polish 1,000 złotych banknote, a 5 mark silver coin from West Germany and a GDR stamp commemorating his 500th birthday.
