The Ta' Ħaġrat temple complex is located in Mġarr on the island of Malta, very close to Skorba. It is the reference site for the Mġarr phase (3,800-3,600 BC).
They are both built of large dry stone. The first temple has a megalithic entrance flaring inwards onto the central space. Excavations revealed that these two temples were built on an older site dating from 4,100-3,800 BC.
The two temples were excavated in 1923 by T. Zammit and in 1925/26 under the supervision of G.G. Sinclair. The exterior of the temples is difficult to read, having been partially stripped bare. The entire site was restored in 1937, but it was not really excavated until 1953 and 1961. In 1992, UNESCO added the temples of Ta' Ħaġrat to the World Heritage List.
Edge: grooved and inscribed with a succession of the number "2", right side up and upside down, separated by two Maltese crosses that are always positioned in the same direction, repeated six times.
