The 2016 Australian 5 dollar banknote is made of polymer, incorporating modern security features and a distinctive design. It measures 130 mm in length and 65 mm in width.

The front of the banknote is dominated by shades of yellow, pink, and purple. The central element is a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II positioned on the right.
