The Monnaie de Paris issued this silver 10 euro coin in 2013 as part of the Métalmorphoses series, designed to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Pessac site. Inaugurated in 1973, the Pessac site is the Monnaie de Paris manufacturing workshop dedicated to the production of French circulating coins, and constitutes a major element of the country's contemporary monetary history.
This coin is struck in 900‰ fine silver, guaranteeing a high-quality metallic composition. It has a diameter of 37 millimetres and a weight of 22.2 grams, dimensions characteristic of collector coins of this format. It originates from the A mint, corresponding to the Paris workshop, identifiable by its distinctive letter present on the edge of the coin.
The strike is produced in Belle Épreuve (BE) quality, a technique specific to collector coins distinguished by a careful treatment of surfaces. This process involves the use of polished blanks and specially treated dies, giving the coin sharp contrasts between the brilliant areas and the matte reliefs.
The mintage is limited to 10,000 pieces, making it a numismatic issue with restricted distribution. The face value of the coin is 10 euros, a value legally recognised within the monetary system of the French Republic. This issue is part of the editorial policy of the Monnaie de Paris aimed at commemorating significant milestones in its own industrial and historical heritage, particularly through the promotion of the Gironde site of Pessac, which has played a central role in French monetary production since its creation.
