Moesia, Marcianopolis, Septimius Severus, AE28 (12.05 g), Julius Faustinianus, magistrate, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Septimius Severus right/Zeus standing left with patera and sceptre.
Very fine, slightly tooled, traces of gilding, old collection tone.
Extremely rare; not in Varbanov; none in CoinArchives; AMNG cites one coin then in St. Petersburg (described by Sestini, M. Benkowitz collection 1806). This coin is not the piece cited by Sestini because that coin was so worn that some letters were indiscernible in the reverse legend.
AMNG 560; Moushmov 377
From a German collection, formed mainly in the 1960s, with collector's ticket.
