The Burundian 50 Francs gold coin was minted in 1967 to commemorate the first anniversary of the Republic. With a mintage of only 2,000, it is one of the rare modern gold issues from Burundi.

The front features a portrait of Michel Micombero , the first president of the Republic of Burundi. The inscriptions “REPUBLIQUE DU BURUNDI” and “PRESIDENT MICHEL MICOMBERO” surround the portrait. Below the portrait is the national motto “UNITE – TRAVAIL – PROGRES”.

The reverse side features the coat of arms of Burundi. The inscription “I ANNIVERSAIRE DE LA REPUBLIQUE” and the dates 1966-1967 commemorate the first anniversary of the Republic. The face value of 50 francs is indicated below the coat of arms.

The coin is made of 900/1000 gold , has a total weight of 16.00 g and contains 14.40 g of pure gold . Its diameter is 27 mm.
