Provenance: Attributed to the Rue Mouffetard Treasure.
The coin was sold by CGB on 3 June 2025 realizing a hammer price of €661 (excluding buyer’s fees) with a maximum recorded bid of €726.
According to the pedigree published by CGB this specimen originates directly from the Rue Mouffetard Treasure(Bourgey sale Louis heirs). CGB further notes that the more pronounced wear on the obverse is explained by the coin having been mounted as a cufflink after its sale by Bourgey. The specimen was sold without its original envelope.
The coin was subsequently resold by MDC Monaco on 4 July 2026 achieving a hammer price of €800 (excluding buyer’s fees) and was likewise attributed to the Rue Mouffetard Treasure.
A very fine example struck on a broad flan with slightly irregular edges. Evidence of an old mounting is present. The reverse shows some areas of weak strike, together with an attractive orange-toned patina, more pronounced on the reverse.
Low mintage: 19,800 coins.
