Obv: Saint Gregory, lettering: S GREGORIO E S FRANCES MOLIANO with insignia of the Franciscan Friars Minor
The inscription on the obverse reads: “S GREGORIO E S FRANCES MOLIANO.” This text refers to two central saintly figures: on the one hand, Gregory the Great (San Gregorio Magno), Pope (590–604) and Church Father, known for his reforms and liturgical contributions; on the other hand, Francis of Assisi, founder of the Franciscan Order.
Such iron punches were used in monastic institutions to mark property and documents.
