Obverse: ANTONINVS PIVS AVG. Laureate head right.
Reverse: VOTA SVSCEPTA XX. Septimius Severus and Caracalla standing facing one another; between, altar before flutist standing facing.
Excellent specimen of this rare issue, struck on AD 207 to commemorate the promise of Caracalla to rule other ten years (ten years already concluded plus other ten promised = twenty years, Vota Svscepta XX). In its reverse appears a representation of the Vota Suscepta oath ceremony, specifically the moment when a flutist, flanked by Caracalla and Septimius Severus, plays the melody prescribed for such a solemn ritual.
EF/EF- condition, conserving full details on both sides, very bold reliefs and high quality silver, with some of its original luster well preserved. Choice!
