In 1890, a transition took place in the Dutch monarchy. King William III, who had reigned since 1849, passed away on November 23, 1890, at the age of 73. His daughter, Wilhelmina, then only ten years old, succeeded him as queen. Because she was still a minor, her mother, Queen Regent Emma, assumed the regency. Emma governed the country during the early years of Wilhelmina’s reign, until Wilhelmina was officially inaugurated in 1898. This transition marked the beginning of a new era in the Dutch monarchy, with a young female monarch at its head. Wilhelmina would go on to become a beloved queen, reigning for nearly 58 years.

Emma leidde het land gedurende de vroege jaren van Wilhelmina’s koningschap, tot Wilhelmina in 1898 officieel werd ingehuldigd. Deze overgang markeerde het begin van een nieuwe periode in de Nederlandse monarchie, met een jonge, vrouwelijke vorst aan het hoofd. Wilhelmina zou uitgroeien tot een geliefde koningin, die bijna 58 jaar op de troon zat.
