Reverse: Blank central field within a laurel wreath, star above.
Historical Context:
Edgar Tinel (1854–1912) was a Belgian composer, pianist, and teacher, highly regarded in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He served as director of the Brussels Conservatory and left an important legacy of religious compositions and oratorios, which made him one of the prominent figures in Belgian sacred music. This medal by medallist K. Schuermans honours his memory with a strong portrait on the obverse. The reverse, with its laurel wreath and star, was designed as a commemorative type that could be engraved with dedications. Medals of Belgian cultural figures such as Tinel were produced in limited numbers, often intended for music associations, conservatories, and academic commemorations.
