Historical Context
Struck in 1958, this medal commemorates the Vatican’s official participation in the Brussels World’s Fair (Expo 58), a landmark international exhibition symbolizing post-war optimism and spiritual engagement with modernity. Pope Pius XII, nearing the end of his papacy, continued the tradition of promoting Catholic presence on the world stage. Designed by Giuseppe Mistruzzi, the Vatican’s principal medallist, the work reflects both religious symbolism and institutional pride.
